First Shall be Last, and Last First - Mark 10:31

Mark wrote how Jesus said, “There is no man that has left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life”, and in chapter ten and verse thirty-one of his book, Mark shared how Jesus said, “many that are first shall be last, and the last first” where we read:

But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.

The verse reads, “But many that are first shall be last; Mark began with the words, “but many” which means “however, nevertheless, nonetheless, moreover and a large group of people” “that are first” or “who are chief in rank, influence, honor and principal” “shall be last” which means “will be the uttermost, lowest and final in rank, influence, honor and principal”. Mark shared how a great number of people who are in the “principle positions” will exist as the ones in “final or lowest position”.

The verse goes on to say, and the last first. Mark continued with the words, “and the last” which means “and the uttermost, lowest and final in rank, influence, honor and principal” “first” or “chief in rank, influence, honor and principal”. Mark shared how Jesus said the people who are in the “lowest positions” will be in the places which are of greatest “influence and rank”.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we discover the way Jesus viewed “positions” in the world. People who are in prominent positions with lots of possessions and power in the world will be in the “lowest places”, and those in the “least honored positions” will be in predominant ones. God loves people, and He raises people up and puts them down in positions of rule and authority, and when a person is faithful to His Son Jesus Christ, whichever places they find themselves, God will decide how they shall sit in His Kingdom to come.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus and His disciples going to Jerusalem and He, “began to tell them what things should happen unto him” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
