Jesus Touching and Blessing Children - Mark 10:16

Mark wrote how, “they brought young children to” Jesus, “that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein”, and in chapter ten and verse sixteen of his book, Mark shared how Jesus took the little children, “in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them”where we read:

And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

The verse reads, “And he took them up in his arms, ... Mark began with the words, “and he took them up” which means “and Jesus picked up and lifted the children” “in his arms” or “into His physical arms”. Mark shared how Jesus lifted the “little children” into His “arms”.

The verse continues , ... put his hands upon them, and blessed them. Mark added the words, “put his hands” which means “placed His physical hands” “upon them” or “on the little children”, “and blessed them” which means “and consecrated with solemn prayers and pronounce consecratory blessings and favor of God upon the children”. Mark shared how Jesus “touched” the “little boys and girls” and pronounced “blessings and favor from God” upon them.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus demonstrated His love and tender care for “little children”. God loves “children”, and those who care for “children” become His agents of love, blessing and sensitive care. Because God desires a “family” of “children”, He wants everyone to receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. When they come to Him as “little children” in humility and faith, God will bless them and extend His favor to them just because they come to Him as His “children”.

Next time Mark shares how man asks Jesus, “what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
