Receiving a Hundredfold - Mark 10:30

Mark wrote how Jesus said, “There is no man that has left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, ...”, and in chapter ten and verse thirty of his book, Mark shared how Jesus continued His thought as He said, “he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time” where we read:

But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.

The verse reads, “But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; Mark began with the words, “but he shall receive” which means “that whether and if the person will lay hold of, obtain and carry away” “an hundredfold” or “one hundred times as many” “now in this time” which means “at this present moment and time”, “houses” or “habitations, dwelling places, abodes and homes”, “and brethren” which means “and brothers who are fellow believers united to one another by the bond of affection”, “and sisters” or “and sisters who are fellow believers united to one another by the bond of affection”, “and mothers” which means “and female progenitors who are fellow believers”, “and children” or “and offspring who are fellow believers”, “and lands” which means “and regions, territories, fields, farms, country seats and neighboring hamlets” “with persecutions” which refers to “maltreatment, ill-treatment, ill usage and abuse”. Mark shared how Jesus said those who leave their belongings and familial ties will receive one hundred times as many of both within His Kingdom.

The verse continues, and in the world to come eternal life. Mark added the words, “and in the world” which means “and in the unbroken age, perpetuity of time and eternity” “to come” or “that shall arrive, arise and appear” “eternal life” which means “age abiding, without beginning and ending, never ceasing to be fullness of life both real and genuine”. Mark shared how Jesus said in addition to the material blessings which will be inherited in this life there will be “everlasting age abiding life” granted in the “unbroken age and perpetuity of time and eternity”.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see great promises for those who “follow Jesus” and His “gospel”. Though it appears that people “leave all” to follow Jesus and the “good news”, they inherit relationships with people who have all of the material goods as well as family connections they shall ever need, and in addition, they shall have “age abiding life”. God loves people, and He not only provides everything they have, but when they “leave” it to follow Jesus, He replaces those things will multitudes more. Let all who consider these words know, understand and believe.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus says, “many that are first shall be last, and the last first” , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
