Young Children Brought to Jesus - Mark 10:13

Mark wrote how Jesus said, “Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, commits adultery against her. And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she commits adultery”, and in chapter ten and verse thirteen of his book, Mark shared how, “they brought young children to” Jesus where we read:

And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them:

and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.

The verse reads, “And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: Mark began with the words, “and they brought” which means “and people within the area carried and lead their” “young children” or “small little boys and girls” “to him” which means “to Jesus”, “that he should touch them” or “so Jesus would lay His hands upon the young children”. Mark shared how people in the area brought their little boys and girls to Jesus so He would “put His hands” upon them.

The verse goes on to say, and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. Mark continued with the words, “and his disciples” which means “and Jesus' students, pupils and attendants” “rebuked” or “found fault with, chided, reproved and censured” “those that brought them” or “the people to carried and lead their children to Jesus”. Mark shared how Jesus' “disciples” began to “chide and find fault” with the people who “lead” their little boys and girls to Jesus.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we discover how people desired for their “children” to be “touched” and “blessed” by Jesus. Jesus was “accessible” to them, and He was not intimidating to children. Jesus' “disciples” thought they were doing well by keeping the children away from Him, but we shall see Jesus' response to their actions in the next verse. Suffice it for now to understand that Jesus wants every person to “come unto” Him, and when we see how He receives “children”, we should understand He desires to “receive” every person in the same way.

Next time Mark shares, “when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased” Jesus, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
