All Amazed at God's Mighty Power - Luke 9:43

The beloved physician Luke wrote, “And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met him. And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech you, look upon my son: for he is mine only child. And, lo, a spirit takes him, and he suddenly cries out; and it tears him that he foams again, and bruising him hardly departs from him. And I besought your disciples to cast him out; and they could not. And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring your son hither. And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father”, and in chapter nine and verse forty-three of his book Luke shared how the people were, “all amazed at the mighty power of God” where we read:

And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God.

But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,

The verse reads, “And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. Luke began with the words, “and they were all amazed” or “and the group of people who met Jesus when He came down the mountain were each, every, the whole and everyone astonished and in awe” “at the mighty power” which means “at the greatness, magnificence and majesty” “of God” or “belonging to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Luke shared how the crowd of people who “met” Jesus were all “astonished and in awe” of the “greatness” and “majesty” from God that was demonstrated through Him.

The verse goes on to say, “But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,” Luke continued with the words, “but while they wondered every one” which means “however and moreover during the time the crowd marveled and admired” “at all things” or “at each, every, the whole and everyone of the acts” “which Jesus did” which means “that the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation performed”, “he said unto his disciples” or “Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed to His students, pupils and attendants” the words within the next verse. Luke shared as the crowd of people were being “amazed” at what Jesus did, He began to speak the words in our next verse to His disciples.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see the “crowd's” reaction to the works and power of Jesus. Anyone who examines Jesus' power and ability not only to overcome “demonic spirits” but to forgive “sins” should carefully listen to His words and not only “wonder” about Him but submit themselves to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “let these saying sink down into your ears”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
