Ashamed of Jesus? - Luke 9:26

The beloved physician Luke wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?”, and in chapter nine and verse twenty-six of his book Luke shared how Jesus told His disciples what would happen to, “whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words” where we read:

For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.

The verse reads, “For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, ... Luke began with the words, “for whosoever” or “because, since and on account that whatever person whether male or female” “shall be ashamed of me” which means “will feel shame because of Jesus” “and of my words” or “and of Jesus' speech, mandate, decree and moral precepts”, “of him” which refers to “of the person who is ashamed of Jesus” “shall the Son of man” or “will Jesus the offspring and progeny of human individuals” “be ashamed” which means “will have shame upon them”. Luke shared how Jesus told His disciples anyone who “feels shame” because of Him will receive “shame” from Him.

The verse goes on to say, “... when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.” Luke continued with the words, “when he shall come” which means “at the time and moment Jesus arises and appears” “in his own glory” or “ in His own personal praise, honor, splendor and brightness”, “and in his Father's” which means “and within Jesus' Heavenly Father God's”, “and of the holy angels” or “and belonging to the sacred, pure and blameless messengers of God”. Luke shared how Jesus stated there would be a time when He would return in “splendor and honor”, and God's and the sacred messengers of God” “glory” as well.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus told His disciples anyone who “felt shame” over Him would have the same “shame” upon them when He comes back. Jesus will return to the earth in “power, splendor and glory”, and the honor of His “Father God and His angels” will accompany Him as well. God's desire is for every person to have an personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, and when they yield their lives to Him as their “Savior and Lord”, they should never be “ashamed” of knowing Him as their “King of Kings” and “Lord of Lords”.

Next time Luke shares how there were, “some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
