Many Prophets Have Desired to See - Luke 10:24

The beloved physician Luke shared how Jesus said, “All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knows who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him. And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that you see”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty-four of his book Luke shared how Jesus said to His disciples, “many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which you see” where we read:

For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which you see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which you hear, and have not heard them.

The verse reads, “For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which you see, and have not seen them;” Luke began with the words, “for I tell you” or “because, since and on account that I, Jesus, speak, affirm, maintain and teach His disciples”, “that many prophets” which means “that a lot, plenteous and much ones who were moved by the Spirit of God and hence his organ or spokesmen and solemnly declared to men what they have received by inspiration, especially concerning future events, and in particular such as relate to the cause and kingdom of God and to human salvation” “and kings” or “and leaders of the people, princes, commanders and lords of the land” “have desired to see those things” which means “were resolved, determined, purposed and wished to observe, behold, perceive and experience the things done by Jesus” “which you see” or “that Jesus' disciples observed, beheld, perceived and experienced”, “and have not seen them” which means “and were unable to observe, behold, perceive and experience the things Jesus did”. Luke shared how Jesus declared to His disciples how a large amount of “rulers and prophets” wanted to observe the works they were given the privilege to “see”.

The verse goes on to say, “and to hear those things which you hear, and have not heard them.” Luke continued with the words, “and to hear those things” which means “and to be given the capacity to hear, perceive, attend to and consider” “which you hear” or “that Jesus's disciples given the capacity to hear, perceive, attend to and consider”, “and have not heard them” which means “and were unable to obtain the capacity to hear, perceive, attend to and consider the things Jesus said”. Luke shared how Jesus included “things” He said as a privilege for His disciples to hear because “kings and prophets” wanted to “hear” them too.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see how God had His timing for people to “see and hear” His Son Jesus and the sayings and activities of His Kingdom. Jesus' disciples were privileged to observe and “hear” what He “did and said” while He ministered on earth. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus Christ, and because He gave us the “Holy Scriptures” we are now able to “observe” what Jesus did and said as well. Those who are wise will realize their privilege to observe Jesus' doings and sayings and submit their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Luke shares how, “a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
