Speaking of Jesus' Death - Luke 9:31

The beloved physician Luke wrote, “And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:”, and in chapter nine and verse thirty-one of his book Luke shared how Moses and Elijah, “spoke of his decease which he should accomplish” where we read:

Who appeared in glory, and spoke of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.

The verse reads, “Who appeared in glory, ... Luke began with the words, “who appeared” or “Moses and Elijah allowed themselves to be seen” “in glory” which means “in honor, praise, splendor and brightness”. Luke shared how Moses and Elijah “revealed themselves” in their “splendor and brightness”.

The verse continues “... and spoke of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.” Luke added the words, “and spoke of his decease” which means “and affirmed, mentioned, related and told of Jesus' death, departure and exit” “which he should accomplish” or “that Jesus intended, had in mind and was to fulfill and suffer completely” “at Jerusalem” which means “in the city of Jerusalem which means set you double peace”. Luke shared how Moses and Elijah “spoke” to Jesus about the “death” He was to “suffer” in the city of “Jerusalem”.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus met “Moses and Elijah” upon the mountain when He was transfigured before His disciples. They “spoke” to Jesus about His pending “death” in the city of “Jerusalem”. God's plan for Jesus was to die upon the cross to pay the price for the “sins” of mankind, and when He was upon this mountain with His disciples, “Peter, James and John”, He was nearing His time to die. “Moses and Elijah” confirmed this process, and when a person believes and trusts in Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” they align themselves with His purpose and plan discussed upon the mountain.

Next time Luke shares how, “Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
