The Seventy Disciples Return - Luke 10:17

The beloved physician Luke shared about Jesus' disciples, “the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through your name”, and in chapter ten and verse eighteen of his book Luke shared how Jesus says, “I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven” where we read:

And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

The verse reads, “And he said unto them, ... Luke began with the words, “and he said” or “and Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed to His disciples” “unto them” which means “to His disciples” the following words. Luke shared how Jesus told His disciples the following words.

The verse goes on to say, “... I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.” Luke continued with the words, “I beheld Satan” which means “I, Jesus, saw and observed the adversary, prince of evil spirits, the inveterate adversary of God and Christ known as the devil” “as lightning fall from heaven” or “like the glare and bright shining of lightning from the sky descend and come down from the region above the sidereal heavens which is the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings”. Luke shared how Jesus said He observed “the devil” descending like “glaring lightning” as he was thrust down from the “sidereal heavens”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see how Jesus declared that He saw “Satan” descending from the “heavenly region” as the disciples minister His words and power among people. God is more powerful that “Satan”, and when Jesus dispatched His disciples, they were given “God's power” to rule over him. God the Father desires a personal relationship with every person, and when they submit their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He will use them in His Kingdom and give them power over “demonic” spirits to do so.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus tells His disciples, “I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
