This Day is Salvation Come - Luke 19:9

The beloved physician Luke wrote how, “Jesus entered and passed through Jericho, and, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at your house. And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold”, and in chapter nineteen and verse nine of his book Luke shares how Jesus said, “This day is salvation come to this house” where we read:

And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house,

insomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

The verse reads, “And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, ... Luke began with the words, “and Jesus said unto him” or “and the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate uttered, declared and proclaimed to Zacchaeus”, “this day is salvation” which means “this particular and certain sunrise to sunset is deliverance, perseverance and health” “come to this house” or “arisen and appeared within Zacchaeus' dwelling place, abode and habitation”. Luke shared how Jesus declared that “deliverance” had come to Zacchaeus' home.

The verse goes on to say, “... insomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.” Luke continued with the words, “insomuch as he also” or “because, since and on account that Zacchaeus even so and indeed” “is a son of Abraham” which means “exists as an offspring, descendant and progeny belonging to Abraham whose name means father of a multitude and was the son of Terah and the founder of the Jewish nation”. Luke shared how Jesus noted that Zacchaeus was also a “descendant” of Father “Abraham” of Israel.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Zacchaeus' statements concerning giving half his wealth to the poor and returning “fourfold” whatever he took from people by mischievous devices caused Jesus to declare “salvation” came to His house. In other words, because Jesus took the time to come to his home, Zacchaeus repented. God desires that all people “turn from their wicked ways” or “repent” and yield to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. When they do, they will receive “forgiveness” of their sins and “everlasting life” with God. Those who are wise will respond to Jesus in the same manner as Zacchaeus and believe and trust in Jesus today.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus says, “the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
