Forsaking the Tabernacle of Shiloh - Psalms 78:60

In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph reminded the people of Israel when they journey through the wilderness how they “provoked” God, “to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images. When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse sixty of Psalms Asaph said Jehovah God, “forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh” where we read,

So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;

The verse begins, “So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, ... Asaph began with the words, “so that he forsook the tabernacle” or “which caused the Divine judge Jehovah God to leave, cast off, abandon and quit the dwelling place, residence and habitation” “of Shiloh” which means “belonging to Shiloh whose name means place of rest and was a city in Ephraim and temporary home of the Ark of the Covenant and the Tabernacle and the place where Samuel grew up”. Asaph said that the Divine judge Jehovah God abandoned and left the dwelling place and habitation of the place of rest where the Ark and presence of God was located.

The verse goes on to say,... the tent which he placed among men; Asaph continued with the words, “the tent which he placed” or “the transient dwelling, home and habitation that the Divine judge Jehovah God set, fixed and established” “among men” which means “in the midst of the people of Israel both male and female”. Asaph said Jehovah God abandoned the transient dwelling place that He established with the people of Israel. (See Exodus 25-26)

When we think through the words in this verse, we are reminded through Asaph how Jehovah God abandoned the sacred transient tent that He established as a place of worship among the people of Israel. God's desires was to be among His people, however, they abandoned Him and began to worship in other places and with graven images. God will accept no substitute for a personal relationship with Him, and this comes through believing and trusting in His Son Jesus. Jesus was sent into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and dwell within and among us. No other place, image or religious activity will be accepted by Him.

Next time Asaph says Jehovah God, “delivered his strength into captivity”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
