God Leading Safely - Psalms 78:53

In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph reminded the people of Israel when they journeyed through the wilderness how Jehovah God, “made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence. And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham. But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse fifty-three of Psalms Asaph said Jehovah God, “led them on safely, so that they feared not” where we read,

And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

The verse begins, And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: Asaph began with the words, “and he led them on safely” or “and he, Jehovah God, guided, brought and transported them, the people of Israel, in a secure, trustworthy, assured and confident manner”, “so that they feared not” which means “so they, the people of Israel, did not have to be afraid, startled and caused to dread. Asaph said Jehovah God guided the people of Israel in such a secure manner that they were in no way afraid.

The verse goes on to say,but the sea overwhelmed their enemies. Asaph continued with the words, “but the sea” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the large body of water known as the Red Sea” “overwhelmed their enemies” which means “covered, concealed and spread over their, the people of Israel's, hating foes and adversaries”. Asaph recalled how the hating foes and adversaries were concealed by the waters of the Red Sea. (See Exodus 14:27-28) God preserved His people, but He destroyed their enemies by way of the overflowing waters of the Red Sea.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we are reminded by Asaph about Jehovah God's provision and leading of the people of Israel out of Egypt and into the wilderness. They escaped through the Red Sea, however, their enemies, the Egyptians, were destroyed in the waters of the sea. God wants to lead all of us out of a world of sin and into a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus. Jesus came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and “overwhelm” any “enemies” who rise up against us.

Next time Asaph says Jehovah God, “brought them to the border of his sanctuary”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
