The Man of God's Right Hand - Psalms 80:17

In Psalms chapter eighty Asaph said, “Return, we beseech you, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine. And the vineyard which your right hand has planted, and the branch that you made strong for yourself. It is burned with fire, it is cut down: they perish at the rebuke of your countenance”, and in chapter eighty and verse seventeen of Psalms Asaph said, “let your hand be upon the man of your right hand”, where we read,

Let your hand be upon the man of your right hand,

upon the son of man whom you made strong for yourself.

The verse begins, Let your hand be upon the man of your right hand, ... Asaph began with the words, “let your hand” or “allow and permit your, Jehovah God's, hand of power, might and authority” “be upon the man” which means “exist on the male human being” “of your right hand” or “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, right hand of power, might and authority”. Asaph appealed to Jehovah God to allow His hand of authority to exist upon the male human being who existed according to His power and might.

The verse goes on to say,... upon the son of man whom you made strong for yourself. Asaph continued with the words, “upon the son of man” or “on the offspring and progeny belonging to a male human being” “whom you made strong” which means “that you, Jehovah God, strengthened and fashioned as courageous, brave, bold and hardened” “for yourself” or “on behalf of your, Jehovah God's, own self”. Asaph desired that Jehovah God put His hand of authority and might on the offspring of the man whom He strengthened and made bold for Himself.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Asaph wanted Jehovah God to place His power and might upon the person who was in the position of authority as well as the offspring of the person whom He made strong and bold for Himself. Asaph knew Jehovah God loved Israel, and when they forsook Him and began to worship other gods, they forfeited His provision and protection. Asaph appealed to God to place His power and authority on the “son” that He loved so the people of Israel would turn back to Him. God loves people, and His desire is to save everyone. He sent His Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and place His power and authority upon us according to His eternal purpose and plan.

Next time Asaph says to Jehovah God, “so will not we go back from you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
