The Boar and Wild Beast - Psalms 80:13

In Psalms chapter eighty Asaph asked Jehovah God about the land of Israel, “Why have you then broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?”, and in chapter eighty and verse thirteen of Psalms Asaph said, “the boar out of the wood does waste it”, where we read,

The boar out of the wood does waste it, and the wild beast of the field does devour it.

The verse begins, The boar out of the wood does waste it, ... Asaph began with the words, “the boar” or “the wild swine or hog” “out of the woods” which means “from the forest, thicket or wooded height” “does waste it” or “tears apart and ravages the land of Israel”. Asaph said the wild hog ravages the land of Israel.

The verse goes on to say,... and the wild beast of the field does devour it. Asaph continued with the words, “and the wild beast” or “and the abundant and full moving creatures” “of the field” which means “belonging to the cultivated land or plain opposed to the mountain” “does devour it” or “consumes, feeds and grazes upon the land of Israel”. Asaph said an abundant number of moving creatures consume the land of Israel.

When we think through words in this verse, we see how wild hogs and moving creatures devour the land of Israel because their walls and fences are destroyed. Because the people of Israel forsook Jehovah God, He allowed even the animals to feast upon their produce. God will protect and provide for every person who will yield themselves to His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sin, grant us everlasting life and defend us against adversaries both human and animal that would consume our goods.

Next time Asaph says, “return, we beseech you, O God of hosts”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
