God Chose Judah - Psalms 78:68

In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph reminded the people of Israel when they journeyed through the wilderness how they “provoked” God, but “the Lord awoke as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouts by reason of wine. And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach. Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse sixty-eight of Psalms Asaph said Jehovah God, “chose the tribe of Judah”, where we read,

But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.

The verse begins, But chose the tribe of Judah, ... Asaph began with the words, “but chose the tribe” or “with exception elected, decided and selected the scepter, rod, staff and clan” “of Judah” which means “belonging to Judah whose name means praised and was the kingdom comprised of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin which occupied the southern part of Canaan”. Asaph said Jehovah God selected the clan belonging to “Judah” instead of Joseph and Ephraim.

The verse goes on to say,... the mount Zion which he loved. Asaph continued with the words, “the mount Zion” or “the rising above the plain known as Zion whose name means parched place and was another name for Jerusalem especially in the prophetic books” “which he loved” which means “for whom he, Jehovah God, had great affection, appetite and passion”. Asaph said Jehovah God had a great passion for the mountain in Jerusalem.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Asaph how Jehovah God selected the people who were His worshipers located in the clan of “Judah” and within “Mount Zion” in Jerusalem. God wants people to worship Him because there is no one better to choose for themselves. His interest is in us, and He loves us so much that He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and employ us to carry His gospel throughout the world.

Next time Asaph says Jehovah God, “built his sanctuary like high palaces”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
