Rivers Turned to Blood - Psalms 78:44

In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph shared when the people of Israel flattered and lied unto God in the wilderness, “they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel. They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy. How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan:”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse forty-four of Psalms Asaph said Jehovah God, “turned their rivers into blood” where we read,

And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.

The verse begins, And had turned their rivers into blood; Asaph began with the words, “and had turned their rivers” or “and changed, overturned and transformed their, the people of Egypt's, brooks, canals and streams” “into blood” which means “into a bloody flow”. Asaph said Jehovah God changed the “rivers, brooks and streams” in “Egypt” into a “bloody flow”.

The verse continues, “and their floods, that they could not drink. Asaph added the words, “and their floods” or “and their, the people of Egypt's, running water”, “that they could not drink” which means “so they, the people of Egypt, were unable to imbibe from the waters”. Asaph referred to how Jehovah God also changed the running waters in Egypt into bloodshed, and the people in Egypt were unable to drink from them. (See Exodus 7:17-21)

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph recalled when Jehovah God changed the waters in Egypt into “blood”. The Egyptians were unable to drink the “waters” because they were polluted in this way. This miracle again demonstrated the power and might of Jehovah God, and it was performed on behalf of the people of Israel. In other words, God demonstrated His love toward the people of Israel over and over again. God does the same for us, and He manifested His love to us by sending His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to recognize the times when He has performed wonders and miracles on our behalf.

Next time Asaph says Jehovah God, “sent divers sorts of flies … and frogs”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
