How Long Will You Be Angry? - Psalms 80:4

In Psalms chapter eighty Asaph said to Jehovah God, “Turn us again, O God, and cause your face to shine; and we shall be saved”, and in chapter eighty and verse four of Psalms Asaph asked Jehovah God, “how long will you be angry against the prayer of your people?”, where we read,

O LORD God of hosts, how long will you be angry against the prayer of your people?

The verse begins, O LORD God of hosts, ... Asaph began with the words, “O LORD God” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God who is the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “of hosts” which means “of armies or masses of angels”. Asaph appealed to Jehovah God who rules and reigns over multitudes of angels.

The verse continues,... how long will you be angry against the prayer of your people? Asaph added the words, “how long” or “for what length of time” “will you be angry” which means “shall you, Jehovah God, exist as filled with ire, indignation, fury and wrath” “against the prayer” or “ by implication a hymn in opposition to the intercession and supplication” “of your people” which means “belonging to your, Jehovah God's, compatriots, country-men, kinsmen and kindred”? Asaph asked Jehovah God for what length of time He would be filled with ire and indignation toward the intercession and supplication of him and the people of Israel.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph appealed to Jehovah God who reigns and rules over angels concerning His wrath and indignation in opposition to the supplications of him and the people of Israel. Asaph knew he and the people of Israel needed Jehovah God to restore them and to turn away His anger from them, and when he made His appeal, Asaph believed God would respond. God wants everyone to receive His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord” because when we yield our lives to Him, we will be forgiven of our sins and granted everlasting life. Let us join Asaph and ask Jehovah God to hear our prayers of repentance without anger toward us for our opposition to Him.

Next time Asaph says, “you feed them with the bread of tears”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
