God's Anger, Wrath, Indignation and Trouble - Psalms 78:49

In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph reminded the people of Israel when they journeyed through the wilderness how Jehovah God, “had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan: And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink. He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them. He gave also their increase unto the caterpillar, and their labor unto the locust. He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycamore trees with frost. He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse forty-nine of Psalms Asaph said Jehovah God, “cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble” where we read,

He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble,

by sending evil angels among them.

The verse begins, “He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, ... Asaph began with the words, “He cast upon them” or “He, Jehovah God, extended, stretched out and directed toward them, the people of Egypt” “the fierceness” which means “the heat, burning, fury and sore displeasure” “of his anger” or “pertaining to his, Jehovah God's, ire and wrath that causes the countenance, face or nostrils to wrinkle”, “wrath” which means “the outpouring, excess and overflow of Jehovah God's passion, rage and anger”, “and indignation” or “and displeasure, rage and fury”, “and trouble” which means “and straits, distress and vexation”. Asaph said God poured out His “fierce anger” upon the people of Egypt, and they suffered distress and vexation because of it.

The verse goes on to say, “... by sending evil angels among them. Asaph continued with the words, “by sending evil angels” or “through the means of assigning and dispatching wicked, bad, malignant, unpleasant and displeasing messengers and envoys” “among them” which means “in the midst of them, the people of Egypt”. Asaph said God used wicked “messengers and envoys” to pour out His “anger and wrath” upon the people of Egypt.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see through Asaph how Jehovah God poured out His “anger, wrath, indignation and trouble” upon the Egyptians, and He used wicked messengers to do so. God is able to dispatch His “wrath” through anyone He desires, and when people refuse and reject His invitation to receive His Son Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”, they open themselves to be manipulated and “troubled” by agents of wickedness. God's desire is to have a personal intimate relationship with every person through His Son Jesus whom He sent into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we trust in, rely upon and cling to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us protected from evil messengers who cause harm to rebellious people.

Next time Asaph says Jehovah God, “made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
