Raining Down Manna - Psalms 78:24

In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph shared how the people of Israel in the wilderness, “tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust. Yes, they spoke against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people? Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel. Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation. Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven, ...”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse twenty-four of Psalms Asaph shared how it, “rained down manna upon them” where we read,

And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

The verse begins, And had rained down manna upon them to eat, ... Asaph began with the words, “and had rained down manna” or “and caused the clouds and heaven to send forth manna which means what is it and was the bread from Heaven that fed the Israelites for forty years of wilderness wanderings” “upon them to eat” which means “on the people of Israel to consume and devour”. Asaph said when Jehovah God “commanded the clouds above” and “opened the doors of heaven”, He caused “manna” to fall upon the people of Israel to consume.

The verse goes on to say,... and had given them of the corn of heaven. Asaph continued with the words, “and had given them” or “and provided and supplied the people of Israel” “of the corn” which means “with the wheat, cereal or grain” “of heaven” or “belonging to the sky, abode of the stars, atmosphere and dwelling of God”. Asaph referred to the way Jehovah God provided the people of Israel with the wheat and grain from the sky and dwelling of God.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how Asaph recalled the way God provided sustenance or food for the people of Israel while they wandered in the wilderness. God opened the doors in heaven and sent “manna” down from the clouds so their hunger would be satisfied. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus whom He sent into the world to die for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide for our needs according to His riches in glory. (See Philippians 4:19) Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus for their provision for us both physically and spiritually.

Next time Asaph shares how, “man did eat angels' food”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
