God Divided the Sea - Psalms 78:13

In Psalms chapter seventy-eight Asaph said of Jehovah God, “Marvelous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan”, and in chapter seventy-eight and verse thirteen of Psalms Asaph said, “He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through” where we read,

He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.

The verse begins, He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; Asaph began with the words, “He divided the sea” or “He, Jehovah God, broke open, cleaved, ripped up and burst asunder the large body of water known as the Red Sea”, “and caused them” which means “and carried and made provision for the people of Israel” “to pass through” or “to walk or journey through the sea” (See Exodus 14:21-31). Asaph said Jehovah God separated the Red Sea which allowed the people of Israel to walk through to the other side.

The verse continues, and he made the waters to stand as an heap. Asaph added the words, “and he made the waters” or “and he, Jehovah God, caused and appointed the waters within the Red Sea” “to stand as an heap” which means “to be stationed, fixed and established in an upright and erect position like a pile or mound”. Asaph said Jehovah God not only caused the waters within the Red Sea to be separated, but He also fixed them in an erect position like piles or walls on each side.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Asaph recalled when Jehovah God caused the Red Sea to be “divided” with walls of water on each side. This allowed the children of Israel to walk through on dry ground to escape from the Egyptian army. God preformed many marvelous miracles to rescue the people of Israel, and He continued to work on the behalf of mankind when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of us all. Egypt became a symbol of the life of sin, and the only rescue was to walk through the path in the Red Sea that God made. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me”, and anyone who desires to be in a relationship with God must come through Him. Only Jesus died for our sins. Only Jesus paid the price of death on the cross for us, and only Jesus provides the way to be saved. All who surrender to Him will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and walk away from sin into a personal relationship with the only God who divided the waters of the Red Sea to save Israel.

Next time Asaph says, “in the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
