The Men of Anathoth - Nehemiah 7:27

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city. Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this”, and he included “the children of Parosh, Shephatiah, Pahathmoab, Jeshua, Joab, Elam, Zattu, Zaccai, Binnui, Bebai, Azgad, Adoniakam, Bigvai, Adin, Ater of Hezekiah, Hashum, Bezai, Hariph and Gibeon” and “the men of Bethlehem and Netophah”and in chapter seven and verse twenty-seven of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the men of Anathoth”, where we read,

The men of Anathoth, an hundred twenty and eight.

The verse reads, The men of Anathoth, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the men” or “the male human beings” “of Anathoth” which means “belonging to Anathoth whose name means answers to prayer”. Nehemiah shared how the male human beings belonging to “Anathoth” were among the people of Israel whom he numbered in his census.

The verse continues, “... an hundred fourscore and eight.” Nehemiah added the words, “an hundred” or “one hundred men plus” “twenty and eight” which means “twenty eight others”. Nehemiah said there were “one hundred and twenty-eight” men who belonged to “Anathoth” who went back to Jerusalem and remained there to the finishing of the barrier wall.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah that “one hundred and twenty-eight” male human beings were among the family of “Anathoth” who were enumerated by him as those who were faithful and obedient to God's commission to return to Jerusalem and Judah and to rebuild the wall. God's accounting for the people of Israel was in full effect, and even though this might have been a tedious and enduring task, Nehemiah did as God commanded. God wants us all to be obedient to Him, and when we receive His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for the sins of the world and raised from the dead three days later, we begin our relationship with Him. He forgives our sins, grants us everlasting life and equips us with His Holy Spirit who not only guides us into all truth, but also empowers us to live according to that truth. Let all praise, glory and honor be given unto Jehovah God and His Son Jesus for the mighty works they have done.

The Men of Bethlehem and Netophah - Nehemiah 7:26

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city. Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this”, and he included “the children of Parosh, Shephatiah, Pahathmoab, Jeshua, Joab, Elam, Zattu, Zaccai, Binnui, Bebai, Azgad, Adoniakam, Bigvai, Adin, Ater of Hezekiah, Hashum, Bezai, Hariph and Gibeon”and in chapter seven and verse twenty-six of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the men of Bethlehem and Netophah”, where we read,

The men of Bethlehem and Netophah, an hundred fourscore and eight.

The verse reads, The men of Bethlehem and Netophah, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the men” or “the male human beings” “of Bethlehem” which means “belonging to Bethlehem whose name means house of bread or food” “and Netophah” or “dropping” which was “a town in Judah resettled by the exiles returning from Babylon with Zerubbabel”. Nehemiah shared how the male human beings from “Bethlehem and Netophah” were accounted for among the people of Israel who returned to Judah and Jerusalem and continued there to the finishing of the barrier wall.

The verse goes on to say, “... an hundred fourscore and eight.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “an hundred” or “one hundred men” “fourscore and eight” which means “eighty eight”. Nehemiah said there were one hundred and eighty eight “men” from “Bethlehem and Netophah” who were accounted for among the people within Judah and Jerusalem

When we think through upon the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah how he began to count the “men” in addition to the “children” of the people from Israel who returned to Jerusalem and remained there to the completion of the barrier wall. God loves and cherishes people of all ages, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and be raised from the grave three days later, He made the way for us to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and counted among the people who will live in Heaven with Him forever. Let all ages and people receive Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”.

The Children of Gibeon - Nehemiah 7:25

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city. Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this”, and he included “the children of Parosh, Shephatiah, Pahathmoab, Jeshua, Joab, Elam, Zattu, Zaccai, Binnui, Bebai, Azgad, Adoniakam, Bigvai, Adin, Ater of Hezekiah, Hashum, Bezai and Hariph”and in chapter seven and verse twenty-five of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Gibeon”, where we read,

The children of Gibeon, ninety and five.

The verse reads, The children of Gibeon, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Gibeon” which means “belonging to Gibeon whose name means hill city”. Nehemiah shared how the offspring of “Gibeon” were also included in the census he took of the people who returned to Jerusalem and continued their to the completion of the barrier wall.

The verse goes on to say, “... ninety and five.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “ninety and five” or “ninety five offspring”. Nehemiah said he accounted for “ninety five” progeny belonging to “Gibeon”.

When we meditate upon Nehemiah's words in this verse, we see how he numbered “ninety five” offspring who belonged to “Gibeon” who were among the people of Israel who returned to Jerusalem and remained there to the completing of the barrier wall. God was at work through Nehemiah, and every person was important to Him. The same remains true to this day, and when He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Jesus from the grave three days later, and every person who yields to Him will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and given His Holy Spirit who will guide them into all truth and empower them to live as witnesses in the world. The Children of Hariph - Nehemiah 7:24

The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this”, and he included “the children of Parosh, Shephatiah, Pahathmoab, Jeshua, Joab, Elam, Zattu, Zaccai, Binnui, Bebai, Azgad, Adoniakam, Bigvai, Adin, Ater of Hezekiah, Hashum and Bezai”and in chapter seven and verse twenty-four of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Hariph”, where we read,

The children of Hariph, an hundred and twelve.

The verse reads, The children of Hariph, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Hariph” which means “belonging to Hariph whose name means a plucking off”. Nehemiah shared how the offspring of “Hariph” or “plucking off” was accounted for among the people of Israel who returned to Jerusalem and continued to the rebuilding of the barrier wall.

The verse goes on to say, “... an hundred and twelve.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “and hundred” or “one hundred offspring plus” “and twelve” which means “and twelve more”. Nehemiah said “one hundred and twelve” offspring of “Hariph” were numbered.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah about another family who returned to Jerusalem after being exiled in Babylon for seventy years. These “one hundred and twelve” offspring belonging to “Hariph” were obedient and faithful to God's commission. God wants us to be obedient and faithful to Him, and because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and be raised from the grave three days later so we may be saved. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit to guide and help us to continue to be faithful and obedient to Him for all our lives.

The Children of Bezai - Nehemiah 7:23

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city. Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this”, and he included “the children of Parosh, Shephatiah, Pahathmoab, Jeshua, Joab, Elam, Zattu, Zaccai, Binnui, Bebai, Azgad, Adonikam, Bigvai, Adin, Ater of Hezekiah and Hashum”and in chapter seven and verse twenty-three of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Bezai”, where we read,

The children of Bezai, three hundred twenty and four.

The verse reads, The children of Bezai, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Bezai” which means “belonging to Bezai whose name means conqueror”. Nehemiah shared how the offspring of “Bezai” were among the people who returned to Jerusalem and endured to the completing of the barrier wall.

The verse goes on to say, “... three hundred twenty and four.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “three hundred” or “three hundred offspring plus” “twenty and four” which means “twenty four more”. Nehemiah shared how there were three hundred and twenty-four progeny of “Bezai” who were included in his census.

When we think through the words in this verse, we discover through Nehemiah that “three hundred and twenty-four” offspring of “Bezai” were included in his accounting of the people who were in Jerusalem. Each of these families, even “conqueror's”, family were known and numbered accurately so the obedient ones would be counted. God knows and loves us in this same manner. His desire is to have us receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of the world and was resurrected from the grave three days later so we may be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and be counted as His family for all eternity. Let all who read these words receive Jesus and be counted within His Kingdom.

The Children of Hashum - Nehemiah 7:22

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city. Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this”, and he included “the children of Parosh, Shephatiah, Pahathmoab, Jeshua, Joab, Elam, Zattu, Zaccai, Binnui, Bebai, Azgad, Adin, Adonikam, Bigvai, Adin and Ater of Hezekiah”and in chapter seven and verse twenty-two of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Hashum”, where we read,

The children of Hashum, three hundred twenty and eight.

The verse reads, The children of Hashum, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Hashum” which means “belonging to Hashum whose name means rich”. Nehemiah shared how the offspring of “Hashum” were included in his census from the people who returned and remained in Jerusalem to the rebuilding of the barrier wall.

The verse continues, “... three hundred twenty and eight.” Nehemiah added the words, “three hundred” or “three hundred offspring plus” “twenty and eight” which means “twenty-eight more”. Nehemiah said there were three hundred and twenty eight offspring of “Hashum” who were counted by him within the city of Jerusalem.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah that three hundred and twenty-eight offspring of “Hashum” were enumerated by him as those who were among the people of Israel who returned to Jerusalem to the rebuilding of the wall surrounding the city. God's plan for accounting for everyone was coming together, and He wants to have everyone receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross and was raised from the dead three days for the sins of the world. God loves us, and when we yield to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to guide us into the truth and provide the ability to live with Him in that truth for all eternity.
