In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city. Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this”, and in chapter seven and verse eight of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Parosh”, where we read,
The children of Parosh, two thousand an hundred seventy and two.
The verse reads, “The children of Parosh, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Parosh” whose name means “belonging to Parosh or Pharosh whose name means flea”. Nehemiah referred to the offspring of “Parosh” who were accounted for in Jerusalem.
The verse goes on to say, “... two thousand an hundred seventy and two.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “two thousand an hundred” or “twenty-one hundred” “seventy and two” which means “and seventy two”. Nehemiah said there were twenty-one hundred and seventy two offspring of “Parosh” numbered in Jerusalem.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah about the offspring of “Parosh” who were part of his record of the people who returned to Jerusalem. Twenty-one hundred and seventy two relatives obeyed Jehovah God's order to return to Jerusalem, and every one of them were important to Him. God loves people, and He proved His love when He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross and to be raised from the dead three days later to offer salvation from sins to the world. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to obey and be accounted for in His Kingdom for all eternity.
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “the children of Shephatiah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
