In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city. Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this”, and he included the children of Parosh, Shephatiah, Pahathmoab, Jeshua, Joab, Elam, Zattu and Zaccai”, and in chapter seven and verse fifteen of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Binnui”, where we read,
The children of Binnui, six hundred forty and eight.
The verse reads, “The children of Binnui, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the children” or “the progeny and offspring” “of Binnui” which means “belonging to Binnui whose name means built up”. Nehemiah shared how the offspring of “Binnui” were also accounted for among the people who returned to Jerusalem.
The verse goes on to say, “... six hundred and forty and eight.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “six hundred” or “six hundred offspring” “and forty and eight” which means “and forty eight more”. Nehemiah said there were “six hundred and forty eight” offspring of “Binnui” who came to and remained in Jerusalem unto the completion of the barrier wall.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah about another family, “Binnui's”, who continued in Jerusalem after being captive in Babylon for seventy years. One by one God was giving an account through Nehemiah of everyone in attendance, and He desires to do the same with us in Heaven. When we put our faith and trust in His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and write our names down in His “book of life” so we will remain in Heaven with Him forever. (See Philippians 4:3; Revelation 3:5)
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “the children of Bebai”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
