The Tekoites Rebuild - Nehemiah 3:27

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah went back to the city of Jerusalem and began to rebuild the wall. Among many people he employed was, Meremoth the son of Urijah the son of Koz another piece, from the door of the house of Eliashib even to the end of the house of Eliashib. And after him repaired the priests, the men of the plain. After him repaired Benjamin and Hashub over against their house. After him repaired Azariah the son of Maaseiah the son of Ananiah by his house. After him repaired Binnui the son of Henadad another piece, from the house of Azariah unto the turning of the wall, even unto the corner. Palal the son of Uzai, over against the turning of the wall, and the tower which lies out from the king's high house, that was by the court of the prison. After him Pedaiah the son of Parosh. Moreover the Nethinims dwelt in Ophel, unto the place over against the water gate toward the east, and the tower that lies out”and in chapter three and verse twenty-seven of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “the Tekoites repaired”, where we read,

After them the Tekoites repaired another piece, over against the great tower that lies out,

even unto the wall of Ophel.

The verse reads, After them the Tekoites repaired another piece, over against the great tower that lies out, ... Nehemiah began with the words, “after them” or “following the Nethinims” “the Tekoites” which means “the people from Tekoa whose name means trumpet blast” “repaired another piece” or “strengthened, hardened and made firm”, “over against the great tower” which means “across from the massive, large and important elevated stage or pulpit” “that lies out” or “that goes forth, exits and departs”. Nehemiah shared how the people called “the Tekoites” rebuilt the section of the barrier wall surrounding Jerusalem across from the large elevated stage that protruded from the wall.

The verse continues, “... even unto the wall of Ophel.” Nehemiah added the words, “even unto the wall” or “as far as and until the barrier wall” “of Ophel” which means “belonging to Ophel whose name means hill and was a ridge of hills in Jerusalem which was fortified for the defense of the city”. Nehemiah shared how “the Tekoites” continued building the barrier wall until they reached the section where “Ophel” was located.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah about another group of people who worked to rebuild a section of the barrier wall which was around Jerusalem. The “Tekoites” strengthened the section of the wall that was from the large elevated stage to the wall in front of “Ophel”. God's plan for the reconstruction of the wall was being completed, and many people, including the “Tekoites”, were involved in the process. God calls people from all walks of life to enter into a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the dead three days later. When we yield to Him as our “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to be a part of His gospel message throughout the world that Jesus Saves.

Next time Nehemiah says, “from the horse gate repaired the priests”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
