Hananiah Repairing - Nehemiah 3:30

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah went back to the city of Jerusalem and began to rebuild the wall. Among many people he employed was, Palal the son of Uzai, over against the turning of the wall, and the tower which lies out from the king's high house, that was by the court of the prison. After him Pedaiah the son of Parosh. Moreover the Nethinims dwelt in Ophel, unto the place over against the water gate toward the east, and the tower that lies out. After them the Tekoites repaired another piece, over against the great tower that lies out, even unto the wall of Ophel. From above the horse gate repaired the priests, every one over against his house. After them repaired Zadok the son of Immer over against his house. After him repaired also Shemaiah the son of Shechaniah, the keeper of the east gate”and in chapter three and verse thirty of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “after them repaired Hananiah”, where we read,

After him repaired Hananiah the son of Shelemiah, and Hanun the sixth son of Zalaph, another piece. After him repaired Meshullam the son of Berechiah over against his chamber.

The verse reads, After him repaired Hananiah the son of Shelemiah, and Hanun the sixth son of Zalaph, another piece.Nehemiah began with the words, “after him” or “following Shemaiah” “repaired Hananiah” which means “strengthened, hardened and made firm Hananiah whose name means God has favored” “the son of Shelemiah” or “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Shelemiah whose name means repaid by Jehovah”, “and Hanun” whose name means “gracious” “the sixth son of Zalap” or “the sixth male progeny and offspring belonging to Zalap whose name means wound”, “another piece” which means “one other section or portion”. Nehemiah shared how “Hananiah” and “Hanun” rebuilt one other piece of the barrier wall to Jerusalem.

The verse continues, After him repaired Meshullam the son of Berechiah over against his chamber.” Nehemiah added the words, “after him” or “following Hanun” “repaired Meshullam” which means “strengthened, hardened and made firm Meshullam whose name means friend” “the son of Berechiah” or “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Berechiah whose name means Jehovah blesses” “over against his chamber” which means “across from his, Meshullam's, cell or room”. Nehemiah shared how “Meshullam” worked on the wall across from his room.

When we think through the words in this verse, we discover through Nehemiah how “Hananiah, Hanun and Meshullam”also repaired sections of the wall around Jerusalem. “Meshullam” worked on the portion near his room, and “Hananiah and Hanun” repaired another portion. God was using all these people to accomplish His desire for Israel and Jerusalem, and when we realize God was also accomplishing His desire us when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He made the way for everyone who believes and trusts in Him as their “Savior and Lord” to be forgiven of their sins. Jesus was raised from the dead after three days, and He provided the way for all who yield to Him to experience the resurrection themselves. (See John 11:25, 29) Let all who read these words surrender to God through His Son Jesus and fulfill His purpose and plan for their lives to build and rebuild others in His Kingdom.

Next time Nehemiah says, “after him repaired Malchiah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
