In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah went back to the city of Jerusalem and began to rebuild the wall. Among many people he employed was, “Nehemiah” himself who was “the son of Azbuk, the ruler of the half part of Bethzur, unto the place over against the sepulchers of David, and to the pool that was made, and unto the house of the mighty. After him repaired the Levites, Rehum the son of Bani. Next unto him repaired Hashabiah, the ruler of the half part of Keilah, in his part. After him repaired their brethren, Bavai the son of Henadad, the ruler of the half part of Keilah. And next to him repaired Ezer the son of Jeshua, the ruler of Mizpah, another piece over against the going up to the armory at the turning of the wall. After him Baruch the son of Zabbai earnestly repaired the other piece, from the turning of the wall unto the door of the house of Eliashib the high priest. After him repaired Meremoth the son of Urijah the son of Koz another piece, from the door of the house of Eliashib even to the end of the house of Eliashib. And after him repaired the priests, the men of the plain. After him repaired Benjamin and Hashub over against their house. After him repaired Azariah the son of Maaseiah the son of Ananiah by his house. After him repaired Binnui the son of Henadad another piece, from the house of Azariah unto the turning of the wall, even unto the corner”, and in chapter three and verse twenty-five of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “Palal the son of Uzai”, where we read,
Palal the son of Uzai, over against the turning of the wall, and the tower which lies out from the king's high house, that was by the court of the prison. After him Pedaiah the son of Parosh.
The verse reads, “Palal the son of Uzai, over against the turning of the wall, and the tower which lies out from the king's high house, ...” Nehemiah began with the word, “Palal” or “judge” “the son of Uzai” which means “the male progeny and offspring belonging to Uzai whose name means I shall have my sprinklings”, “over against the turning of the wall”or “across from the inner buttress belonging to the barrier wall”, “and the tower” which means “and the elevated stage and pulpit” “lies out from the king's high house” or “that exits, departs and goes forth apart from the royal ruler and leader's habitation, abode and dwelling place”. Nehemiah shared how “Palal” worked on the barrier wall across from the buttress belonging to the barrier wall which goes forth and apart from the royal ruler's dwelling place.
The verse continues, “... that was by the court of the prison. After him Pedaiah the son of Parosh.” Nehemiah added the words, “that was by the court” or “that existed beside the enclosure” “of the prison” which means “belonging to the mark, target and ward”. “After him Pedaiah” or “following him, Uzai, Pedaiah whose name means Jehovah has ransomed” “the son of Parosh” which means “the male progeny and offspring belonging to Parosh whose name means flea”. Nehemiah shared how “Palal” continued his work beside the enclosure of the “prison ward”, and “Pedaiah”repaired the section of the wall which was next to “Palal's” work.
When we meditate upon Nehemiah's words in this verse, we discover how “Palal” and “Pedaiah” were also involved in rebuilding the wall surrounding Jerusalem. “Palal” worked on the wall toward the corner angle which was by the elevated stage, and “Pedaiah” worked toward the ward of the “prison”. Every place on the wall was important, and every area of Jehovah God's Kingdom is important as well. God will use every person who yields their life to His Son Jesus who died on the cross and was resurrected from the dead three days later to work in His Kingdom. When we put our faith and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and equip us with His place in the Kingdom work throughout this life and the life to come.
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “the Nethinims”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
