In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared how, “the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the trumpet was by me. And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, the work is great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another”, and in chapter four and verse twenty of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared what the builders were to do, “in what place therefore you hear the sound of the trumpet”, where we read,
In what place therefore you hear the sound of the trumpet, resort you there unto us:
our God shall fight for us.
The verse reads, “In what place therefore you hear the sound of the trumpet, resort you there unto us:” Nehemiah began with the words, “in what place therefore” or “within whatever location then” “you hear the sound of the trumpet” which means “you, people of Judah who were working on the wall, perceive by the ear or listen to the bleating and noise belonging to the ram's horn, cornet or curved horn”, “resort you there unto us” or “gather and assemble you, the people of Judah, in that location to us, Nehemiah and his fellow leaders”. Nehemiah shared how he instructed the people at the time they “heard” the blast of the ram's horn, they were to assemble to him and those with him.
The verse goes on to say, “... our God shall fight for us.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “our God shall fight” or “our, Nehemiah and the people of Judah's, Supreme Deity will do battle, make and wage war” “for us” which means “on behalf of us, Nehemiah and the people of Judah”. Nehemiah said when the ram's horn was blown, Jehovah God would go to battle on their behalf.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Nehemiah declared a warning sound through the ram's horn for the people of Judah, and at the time they heard it's sound, they were to gather together with him because God was going to wage war on their enemies. God wants to be the provision and protection of every person, and when we yield ourselves to His Son Jesus who died on the cross and was resurrected from the grave three days later for the sins of the world, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us understanding and wisdom for the times of warning while knowing it is God Himself who shall fight on our behalf.
Next time Nehemiah says, “we labored in the work”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
