In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city. Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this. The children of Parosh, two thousand an hundred seventy and two”, and in chapter seven and verse nine of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Shephatiah”, where we read,
The children of Shephatiah, three hundred seventy and two.
The verse reads, “The children of Shephatiah, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Shephatiah” which means “belonging to Shephatiah whose name means Jehovah has judged”. Nehemiah shared how the progeny who belonged to “Shephatiah” were also accounted for in Jerusalem.
The verse continues, “... three hundred seventy and two.” Nehemiah added the words, “three hundred” or “three hundred offspring plus” “seventy and two” which means “seventy two more”. Nehemiah said there were three hundred and seventy two offspring of “Shephatiah” who obeyed Jehovah God and returned to Jerusalem.
When we consider Nehemiah's words in this verse, we discover there were three hundred and seventy two offspring of“Shephatiah” who went back to Jerusalem and remained there while the barrier wall to the city was built. God caused Nehemiah to acknowledge them, and He acknowledges our names when He records them in the “lambs book of life” as we receive His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross and resurrected from the dead three days later for the sins of the world. When we accept Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and make a record of our names that will allow us to remain with Him for all eternity. (See Philippians 4:3; Revelation 3:5, 20:12, 21:27)
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “the children of Arah”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
