Charge Over Jerusalem - Nehemiah 7:2

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed, ...”and in chapter seven and verse two of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem”, where we read,

That I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem:

for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.

The verse reads, That I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem:Nehemiah began with the words, “that I gave my brother Hanani” or “that I, Nehemiah, charged, gave order and commanded my, Nehemiah's, male sibling Hanani whose name means gracious”, “and Hananiah” which means “and Hananiah whose name means God has favored”, “the ruler of the palace” or “the prince, leader, chief and chieftain pertaining to the temple”, “charge over Jerusalem” which means “command, order and commission over Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and was the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split”. Nehemiah shared how he provided a commission for his male sibling “Hanani” and “Hananiah” to be the one in charge over the city of Jerusalem.

The verse goes on to say, for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.” Nehemiah continued with the words, “for he was a faithful man” or “because, since and on account that he, “Hananiah”, existed as a sure, reliable, stable and truthful male human being”, “and feared God” which means “and revered, held in aw and honored the Supreme Deity”“above many” or “over a great and abundant number of people”. Nehemiah shared how “Hananiah” was a reliable and truthful “man” who revered the Supreme Deity Jehovah over a numerous amount of other people.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Nehemiah also appointed his brother “Hanani” and “Hananiah” to be in charge of the temple and Jerusalem. Reliable people are sometimes difficult to find, but Nehemiah knew just who to assign the task. God wants us to be reliable in His Kingdom as well, and when we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the dead three days later, He provided the way for us to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and given the wisdom to know who to put in positions of authority by His Holy Spirit when the occasion arises to do so.

Next time Nehemiah said, “Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
