In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city. Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this. The children of Parosh, two thousand an hundred seventy and two. The children of Shephatiah, three hundred seventy and two”, and in chapter seven and verse ten of Nehemiah, Nehemiah shared about, “the children of Arah”,where we read,
The children of Arah, six hundred fifty and two.
The verse reads, “The children of Arah, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “the children” or “the offspring and progeny” “of Arah” whose name means “belonging to Arah whose name means traveller”. Nehemiah shared how the offspring of “Arah” were accounted for among those who returned to Jerusalem and continued until the completion of the wall.
The verse continues, “... six hundred seventy and two.” Nehemiah added the words, “six hundred” or “six hundred offspring plus” “fifty and two” which means “fifty two others”. Nehemiah said there were “six hundred and fifty two”offspring of “Arah” who were numbered among the people in Jerusalem.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah that “Arah” had “six hundred and fifty two”of his progeny return to Jerusalem at the commission of Jehovah God, and they were numbered among the other people of Jerusalem. God knows and loves everybody, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with every person who will receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross and was raised from the dead three days afterward as their “”Savior and Lord”. When we submit to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire by His Holy Spirit to be numbered among the masses that shall stand before Him in Heaven some day.
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “the children of Pahathmoab”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
