Think Upon Me, My God - Nehemiah 5:19

In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, that which was prepared for me daily was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this required not I the bread of the governor, because the bondage was heavy upon this people”and in chapter five and verse nineteen of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “think upon me, my God”, where we read,

Think upon me, my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people.

The verse reads, Think upon me, my God, for good ... Nehemiah began with the words, “think upon me” or “remember, call to mind and make a remembrance of me, Nehemiah”, “my God” which means “my, Nehemiah's, Supreme Deity”, “for good” or “on behalf of pleasantness and agreeable”. Nehemiah called upon Jehovah God his Supreme Deity to provide him with favor and pleasantness.

The verse continues, “... according to all that I have done for this people.” Nehemiah added the words, “according to all that I have done” or “in keeping with each, every, the whole and everything that I, Nehemiah, have produce ” “for this people” which means “on behalf of this people group, the people of Judah”. Nehemiah asked God to bless him for everything he did on behalf of the Jewish people.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Nehemiah prayed to God again and appealed to Him to bless him for everything he did for the people of Judah. God wants to bless us, and He will indeed reward us for what we do for others. (See Hebrews 11:6; James 1:12) Nehemiah was in a position of authority, and he used his rule for blessing people. When we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for our sins and rose from the grave three days later, He will for give our sins, grant us everlasting life and bless us with “good” even as we do good unto others. (See Matthew 7:12)

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Nehemiah share what happened, “when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builded the wall”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
