In the book of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said, “I continued in the work of this wall, neither bought we any land: and all my servants were gathered there unto the work”, and in chapter five and verse seventeen of Nehemiah, Nehemiah said,“there were at my table an hundred and fifty of the Jews and rulers”, where we read,
Moreover there were at my table an hundred and fifty of the Jews and rulers,
beside those that came unto us from among the heathen that are about us.
The verse reads, “Moreover there were at my table an hundred and fifty of the Jews and rulers, ...” Nehemiah began with the words, “moreover there were at my table” or “in addition there existed at my, Nehemiah's, privately used spread out meal” “an hundred and fifty” which means “one hundred and fifty” “of the Jews” or “pertaining to people who were Jehudaites or Judaites ” “and rulers” which means “and leaders, prefects, governors and officials”. Nehemiah shared how there existed one hundred and fifty Jewish people and officials who were seated at his meal “table”.
The verse continues, “... beside those that came unto us from among the heathen that are about us.” Nehemiah added the words, “beside those” or “in addition to the people” “that came unto us” which means “who entered in among us, Nehemiah and his servants” “from among the heathen” or “who were in the midst and middle of the non-Hebrew, foreign and Gentile nations” “that are about us” which means “who surround us, Nehemiah and his servants”. Nehemiah shared how there were non-Hebrew foreign people who surrounded them at the meal “table” as well.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Nehemiah how a vast number of people were with him at his meal table. We can imagine what a feast this was to prepare food for one hundred and fifty Jewish people and leaders as well as foreigners who joined together to eat. God invites everyone to be a part of his “marriage supper of the Lamb” (See Revelation 19:9), and access is given to us when we yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the grave three days later. As we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and extend to us an invitation to be seated at His “marriage supper” in Heaven where we shall live with Him forevermore.
Next time Nehemiah shares about, “that which was prepared for me daily”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
