Paul
the apostle asked the Jews in Rome,
Abraham
“
is the father of us all”,
and
in
chapter four and verse eighteen of Romans, Paul referred to how God's
promise, “a
father of many nations”
where
we read:
Who
against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of
many nations,
according
to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
The
verse begins, “Who
against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of
many nations, ...”
Paul began with the words, “who
against hope”
which means “Abraham beside and contrary to expectation and
confidence of good” “believed”
or “thought to be true, was persuaded of and had confidence” “in
hope”
or “upon expectation and confidence of good”, “that
he might become”
which means “so Abraham could begin to be and come into existence
as” “the
father”
or “the generator and male ancestor” “of
many nations”
which refers to “of a large number multitudes, companies, troops
and people groups”. “Abraham”
“believed”
what he “thought to be true” even when it seemed impossible
because he was to become “the
father”
of “nations”
all over the world.
The
verse goes on to say, “according
to that which was spoken, So shall your seed be.”
Paul
continued with the words, “according
to”
which refers to “down from, through out and toward” “to
that which was spoken”
or “to what was uttered, spoken and proclaimed”, “so
shall”
which means “in the same way will” “your
seed be”
or “Abraham's offspring and posterity exist”. Paul referred to
how God told “Abraham”
that his “offspring” would come through what he “believed”.
When
we consider these words of Paul, we see how
“Abraham” “believed”
God's promise even when the natural way of fulfilling it seemed
impossible. God promised the aging Abraham he would have a son
through Sarah his aging wife, and this would be the beginning of him
being “a
father”
to “nations”
all over the world. Jesus Christ is the “promised”
Son of God who came to redeem people from their “sins”, and all
who believe in Him shall not only be “saved” but also shall
receive “everlasting
life”.
May all who read these words know the benefit of “Abraham”
being “the
father”
throughout all the earth.
Next
time Paul tells the people in Rome Abraham, “being
not weak in faith,...considered not his own body now dead”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
