Paul
the apostle told the Jews in Rome how
Abraham
“staggered
not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith,
giving glory to God,
and being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able
also to perform”,
and he continued, “now
it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him.”
In
chapter four and verse twenty-four of Romans, Paul shared how, “it
shall be imputed, if we believe on him”
where
we read:
But
for us also, to whom it shall be imputed,
if
we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
The
verse begins, “
But
for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, ...”
Paul
began with the word, “but”
which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be
written takes precedence over what was just stated “for
us”
or “on account of, for this reason and therefore to Paul, his
companions and the Roman believers” “also”
which means “even so and indeed”, “to
whom”
or “toward these who believe in God's promise” “it
shall be imputed”
which means “the righteousness of God will be reckoned, counted,
computed and calculated”. Paul shared how he, his companions and
his readers would also be “reckoned and accounted of” as
“righteous”
if they “believe”
the promise of God.
The
verse goes on to say, “...
if
we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;”
Paul
added the words, “if
we believe”
which means “whether, Paul, his companions and readers” “on
him”
or “on God Almighty” “that
raised up”
which means “who aroused, awoke, and recalled the dead to life
again” “Jesus”
whose name means “Jehovah is Salvation” and is “the Son of God,
the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “our
Lord”
which means “Paul, his companions and believing reader's one to
whom a person or thing belongs about which he has power of deciding;
master and the title given to God the Messiah” “from
the dead”
or “out of and away from being lifeless, deceased, without life and
inanimate”. Paul shared how
“believing that God raised Jesus from the dead”
is the condition for people to have “righteousness”
“reckoned and accounted unto them.
When
we consider these words of Paul, we see how anyone who “believes
God raised Jesus from the dead” is included in the group to
whom God “imputes righteousness”. Believing that Jesus
died for our sins and rose from the grave three days later is all
that is required to receive God's “righteousness”. This
makes it accessible to everyone, and those who are wise shall
“believe” and be saved.
Next
time Paul tells the people in Rome how,
“was
delivered for our offenses, and was raised again for our
justification”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
