Paul
the apostle shared with the people in Rome,
“What
shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?,
and in chapter six and verse two of Romans, Paul questioned, “how
shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?”
where
we read:
God
forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
The
verse begins, “God
forbid. ”
Paul
began with the words, “God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit “forbid”
which means “certainly and absolutely not”. Paul emphatically
stated there should be no way for a person to think they could “sin”
so “grace”
would “abound”.
The
verse goes on to say, “How
shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?”
Paul
continued with the words, “how
shall we”
which means “in what way shall Paul, his companions and his
believing readers” “that
are dead”
or “who are slain and perished” “to
sin” which
means “to missing the mark, error and being mistaken”, “live
any longer” or
“be active, blessed and worthy to any degree and increase”
“therein”
which means “within them”. Paul questioned in what way could
people who had “died”
to “sinful ways” continue to “live”
in them.
When
we consider these words of Paul, we see how strongly he stood against
“continuing in sin” just so “God's grace” would
“abound”. In no way was he condoning “sinful”
behavior even though those who believe in Jesus are not under “the
law of God” but under His “grace”. His rhetorical
question was how people who are “dead” to “sinful
ways” could keep on committing them. Jesus Christ came not only
to “save” people from their “sins” but also to
“cleanse” them from “error and wrong”.
Next
time Paul asks the people in Rome if they knew about those who,
“were
baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
