What If Some Did Not Believe? Romans 3:3

Paul the apostle asked the Jews in Rome, “What advantage then has the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?”, and in chapter three and verse three of Romans, Paul asked this question, “what if some did not believe?” where we read:

For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?

The verse begins, “For what if some did not believe?” Paul began with the word, “for” which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore” “what if some” or “what would happen if certain ones” “did not believe” which means “betrayed a trust, were unfaithful and had disbelief”. Paul questioned what would happen if “certain” people were “unfaithful” and in “disbelief”?

The verse continues, “shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?” Paul added the words, “shall their unbelief” which means “will these certain ones' unfaithfulness, weakness in faith and disbelief” “make the faith” which means “render idle, unemployed, inactive and inoperative the conviction that God exists and is the creator and ruler of all things, the provider and bestower of eternal salvation through Christ ” “of God” which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “without effect” or “rendered idle, unemployed, inactive and inoperative” . Paul questioned whether his readers thought “disbelief” would “render idle” God's “faith”.

When we think through these words of Paul, we understand why he was asking these questions. The “disbelief” or “unbelief” of a person in no way alters the “truth of God's word”, and just because someone declares, “I don't believe it”, does not change it in any way. If some people choose not to believe the “gospel” of Jesus Christ, Jesus still came to the earth to die for their sins, be raised from the grave and offer them salvation through “faith” in Him. In other words, the “unbeliever's” doubt in no way modifies or varies God's “good news”. God desires to save “everyone”, even “unbelievers”, and yet, He patiently waits for people to turn to Him, repent of their sins and “believe”.

Next time Paul answered his questions, “God forbid: yes, let God be true, but every man a liar;”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
