Paul
the apostle shared with the people in Rome,
“as
by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience
of one shall many be made righteous”
and in
chapter
five and verse twenty of Romans, Paul shared, “
where sin abounded, grace did much more abound”
where
we read:
Moreover
the law entered, that the offense might abound.
But
where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
The
verse begins, “Moreover
the law entered, that the offense might abound. ”
Paul
began with the word, “moreover”
which means “and also” “the
law”
which means “the rule producing a state approved of God by the
observance of which is approved of God” “entered”
which means “came alongside” “that
the offense”
or “so the violation or lapse or deviation from truth and
uprightness” “might
abound”
which means “could super-abound, increase and be augmented”. Paul
shared how “the
law of God”
came so “sin”
or “violation of God's law” might be clearly “augmented” and
known.
The
verse goes on to say, “But
where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:”
Paul
continued with the word, “but”
which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be
written takes precedence over what was just stated “where
sin”
or “in the place missing the mark, erring and being mistaken”
“abounded”
which
means “super-abounded, increased and was augmented” “grace”
or
“that which affords joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness, charm,
loveliness and unmerited favor” “did
much more abound”
which means “to a greater degree super-abounded, increased and was
augmented”. Paul recognized that “sin”
was widely prevailing, however, to whatever degree “sin”
increased, God's “grace”
was even greater.
When
we consider these words of Paul, we see how far reaching is the
“grace of God”. Though “sin” increases to
unbelievable margins, God's “grace” reaches beyond them.
Through Jesus Christ, no matter how “sinful” a person may
be, God is able to bless them with His “unmerited favor”, and all
who receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”
shall receive more “grace” than the worst thing they have
ever thought or done.
Next
time Paul tells the people in Rome,
“as
sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through
righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
