Paul
the apostle told the Jews in Rome,
“God commends his love
toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
He added, “much more then,
being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath
through him”,
and in
chapter five and verse ten of Romans, Paul declared, “when
we were enemies, we were reconciled to God”
where we read:
For
if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of
his Son,
The
verse begins, “For if, when
we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son,
...”
Paul
began with the words, “for
if”
which means “even, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and
therefore whether” “when”
or “at the moment and time” “we
were enemies”
which means “Paul, his companions and his believing readers were
hostile, odious, hateful and opposing”, “we
were reconciled”
or “Paul, his companions and his believing readers were returned
and received into favor” “to
God” which
refers to “with the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “by
the death”
which means “through and by means of the separation of the soul
and the body by which life on earth is ended” “of
his Son”
or “of God's Son Jesus”. Paul began with the idea that he, his
companions and his readers were “received into favor” with God
while they were “opposed and hateful” to Him.
The
verse continues, “...
much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.”
Paul
continued with the words, “much
more”
which means “to a larger and greater decree”, “being
reconciled”
or “returned and received into favor”, “we
shall be saved”
which refers to “Paul, his companions and his readers will be kept
safe, sound, rescued from danger and destruction” “by
his life”
or “through and by means of Jesus' state of vitality or animation”.
Those who believe in Jesus shall be “brought into favor with God”
to a much “greater degree” and “saved”
“through Jesus' life”.
When
we think through these words of Paul, we see how Jesus “died”
for people who were considered His “enemies”. When most
people seek to “destroy” their “enemies”, Jesus
brought people into “favor with God” through His death on the
cross. Now when a person receives Jesus as their personal “Savior
and Lord”, He not only “favors” them, but also “saves”
them from God's “wrath to come”. If Jesus did this when we were
considered His “opposing enemies”, how much more shall we enjoy
His “salvation” once we have been brought into “favor”
with God? Let all who are wise know, understand and receive this
awesome gift of “grace” that has been afforded to everyone
whether “friend” or “foe” to God.
Next
time Paul shares what happened, “we
also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now
received the atonement”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
