Paul
the apostle told the Jews in Rome,
“until the law sin was in
the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law”,
and
in
chapter five and verse fourteen of Romans, Paul shared how, “death
reigned from Adam to Moses”
where we read:
Nevertheless
death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned
after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of
him that was to come.
The
verse begins, “Nevertheless
death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned
after the similitude of Adam's transgression,”
Paul
began with the word, “nevertheless”
which means “notwithstanding, yes and moreover” “death
reigned”
which means “the rule, influence and control of the separation
(whether natural or violent) of the soul and the body by which the
life on earth is ended” “from
Adam”
which means “beginning with Adam whose name means “the red
earth”“to Moses” or
“until Moses whose name means drawing out”, “even
over them”
which means “indeed upon and against the people” “that
had not sinned”
or “who had not missed the mark, erred or were mistaken” “after
the similitude”
which means “who is after the likeness, figure or image of
something” “of Adam's”
or “like Adam or the red earth's” “transgression”
which means “a disregarding, violation, breach and breaking”.
Paul shared how “death”
“ruled” over people from the time of “Adam”
to “Moses”.
The
verse goes on to say, “who
is the figure of him that was to come.”
Paul
continued with the words, “who
is the figure”
which means “Adam's print, image, form or impression” “of
him”
or “of Jesus” “that was
to come”
which means “who was to be on the point of doing or suffering
something”. “Adam”,
according to Paul, was the “image” or “impression” of Jesus
who was to arrive on the scene.
When
we think through these words of Paul, we see how “death”
continued in the world from “Adam's”
time until “Moses'”.
In other words, when “death”
began with “Adam”,
it continued even to the time of “Moses”
even while there was no “law”
to guide people. People violated God's “law”
without knowing what His “law”
was, and the result of their “sinning” was “death”.
Jesus Christ came to “give life,
and life more abundantly”,
and since people go against God's law, they shall “die”. Jesus
said, “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son,
that whosoever believes in him, should not perish, but have
everlasting life” (John 3:16). Because “death”
ruled, Jesus came to defeat “death”,
“eternal death”, and give life to all who believe and trust in
Him.
Next
time Paul shares how, “death
reigned from Adam to Moses”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

tomorrow…there is more…
