Paul
the apostle told the people in Rome,
“we
are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was
raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also
should walk in newness of life”,
and in
chapter six and verse five of Romans, Paul shared how “if
we have been planted together in the likeness of”
Jesus' “death”,
“we shall be also in
the likeness
of his
resurrection”
where
we read:
For
if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death,
The
verse begins, “For
if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, ...”
Paul
began with the word, “for”
which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and
therefore” “if
we have been planted”
which means “whether we have become, come into existence, happened
and began to be implanted, united and kindred” “together”
or “along with and beside” “in
the likeness”
which means “in the figure, image, resemblance and representation”
“of
his death” or
“of Jesus' separation of the soul and the body by which the life on
earth is ended ”. Paul expressed the condition whether he, his
companion and his believing readers were “buried” like Jesus
after His death.
The
verse continues, “...
we shall be also in
the likeness
of his
resurrection:”
Paul
added the words, “we
shall be also”
which means “Paul, his companions and his believing readers will
even so and indeed will exist” “in
the likeness”
or “in the figure, image, resemblance and representation” “of
his resurrection”
which refers to “of Jesus' rising from the dead”. Paul concluded
those who have been “buried” “like”
Jesus', shall be “raised” like His “resurrection”.
When
we consider these words of Paul, we see how those who have “buried”
the old life of sin like Jesus' body was after His death, shall be
“raised” to new life in the same manner as He was “resurrected”.
Jesus died on the cross, was buried, and on the third day was raised
to life again. In the same way, those who repent of their “sins”
and “believe and trust” in Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”
shall have “died” to their old life and be “raised” or
“resurrected” to new life in Him. Every person who reads
these words should trade their “old sinful life” for a new “life”
in Jesus, and God will be faithful to “resurrect” them
even as He did Jesus.
Next
time Paul tells the people in Rome,
“our old man is crucified with”
Jesus,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
