Mouth Full of Cursing and Bitterness Romans 3:14

Paul the apostle told the Jews in Rome, “There is none righteous, no, not one:” There is none that understands, there is none that seeks after God”, and he added, “they are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that does good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:” In chapter three and verse fourteen of Romans, Paul shared how their, “mouth is full of cursing and bitterness” where we read:

Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:

The verse begins, Whose mouth is full of cursing... Paul began with the words, “whose mouth” which means “whose orifice in the front of the face where thoughts of a man's soul find verbal utterance and the "heart" or "soul" and the mouth are distinguished” “is full” which means “is swollen and filled” “of cursing” which means “imprecation and malediction”. Paul shared how these people's “mouths” were “filled” with “imprecation and accusation”.

The verse goes on to say, “...and bitterness:Paul added the words, “and bitterness” which means “bitter gall, extreme wickedness and hatred”. Not only were the “mouths” of these people “filled with accusations”, but they were also full of “extreme wickedness and hatred”.

When we meditate upon these words of Paul, we see just how depraved people can be in their speech. Those to whom Paul referred were using their “God given” voices to promote wickedness, hatred and evil accusations”. These are the “mouths” Jesus Christ came to save. Jesus said, out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” (Matthew 12:34), and these people only confirm what He has declared. Those who read these words must examine their “speech” to determine whether they use their “mouths” for “cursing and bitterness” or to promote the Kingdom of God through Jesus Christ the Lord.

Next time Paul continues to tell the people in Rome about these unbelieving people, Their feet are swift to shed blood: , so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
