Paul
the apostle told the Jews in Rome,
“There
is none righteous, no, not one:”
There
is none that understands, there is none that seeks after God”,
and
he
added, “they
are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable;
there is none that does good, no, not one. Their throat is
an
open sepulcher; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison
of asps is
under
their lips: Whose mouth is
full
of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are
swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are
in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known:”
In
chapter three and verse eighteen of Romans, Paul shared how they have
“not
known”,
“the
way of peace”
where we read:
There
is no fear of God before their eyes.
The
verse begins, “there
is no fear...”
Paul began with the words, “there
is”
which means “there exists and remains” “no
fear”
or “no dread, terror or reverence”. Paul declared the people of
whom he wrote to have “no dread, terror or reverence” at all.
The
verse goes on to say, “...
of God before their eyes.”
Paul
continued with the words, “of
God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “before”
or “in the front and sight of” “their
eyes”
which means “the people's vision and sight”. Paul shared how
these people had no “reverence” of God within their “sight”.
When
we think through these words of Paul, we see how these people also
had no “reverence or awe” of God within their lives. Because they
were not “righteous” and forsook the ways of God, they went about
their own ways and acquired no “fear of God” that was
normal. Jesus Christ came to save people such as these, and though
they had “no fear of God” within them, Jesus offered
“everlasting life” and shared how they “should not
perish”. (See John 3:16) Perhaps the idea of “perishing”
eternally shall promote a “fear and reverence” of God which is
necessary to consider Jesus for “salvation” from the “righteous”
judgment to come.
Next
time Paul continues to tell the people in Rome,“whatever
the law says, it says to them who are under the law”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
