Paul
the apostle shared with the people in Rome,
“not
as it
was
by one that sinned, so
is
the gift: for the judgment was
by one to condemnation, but the free gift is
of many offenses unto justification”,
and he added, “for
if by one man's offense death reigned by one; much more they which
receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall
reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)”
In
chapter five and verse eighteen of Romans, Paul shared about,
“judgment”
and
“righteousness”
where
we read:
Therefore
as by the offense of one judgment
came
upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the
free gift came
upon all men unto justification of life.
The
verse begins, “Therefore
as by the offense of one judgment
came
upon all men to condemnation;”
Paul
began with the word, “therefore”
which means “so then and wherefore” “as
by the offense”
which means “in the way and manner of the lapse or deviation from
truth and uprightness” “of
one judgment”
which means “of a single sin or misdeed” “came
upon all men”
or “arose toward each, every, the whole and every human whether
male or female” “to
condemnation”
or “to a damnatory sentence”. Paul referred to how “one sinful
act” from Adam brought a “damning sentence” upon all people.
The
verse continues, “even
so by the righteousness of one the
free gift came
upon all men unto justification of life.”
Paul
added the words, “even
so”
which means “in the same manner or way” “by
the righteousness”
or “through that which has been deemed right so as to have force of
law or ordinance” “of
one”
which means “of a single and lone person” “the
free gift came upon” or
“God's free grace” “all
men”
which means “each, every, the whole and everyone human whether male
or female” “unto
justification”
which refers to “toward the act of God declaring men free from
guilt and acceptable to him” “of
life”
which means “pertaining to the state of one who is possessed of
vitality or is animate”. God's “free granting” of “right
standing with Him” came to all people through Jesus.
When
we meditate upon these words of Paul, we see how Adam was the “one
person” who brought “judgment” upon every person, and
Jesus was the “one person” who brought “right standing” with
God. This is the “gospel” or “good news” of God, and everyone
who receives Jesus as “Savior and Lord” shall have
“righteousness” attributed unto them. Those who are wise
shall not only realize their “judgment” that has come upon them
by Adam, but also shall receive the “righteousness” which
is freely offered through Jesus Christ.
Next
time Paul shares concerning,
“disobedience”
and
“obedience”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
