Paul
the apostle told the Jews in Rome,“to
him that works not, but believes on him that justifies the ungodly,
his faith is counted for righteousness”,
and in chapter four and verse six of Romans, Paul shares about, “the
blessedness of the man” with
“imputed righteousness”
where we read:
Even
as David also describes the blessedness of the man,
unto
whom God imputes righteousness without works,
The
verse begins, “Even as David
also describes the blessedness of the man, ...”
Paul began with the word, “even
as”
which means “according and just as” “David”
whose name means “beloved” and was “the second king of Israel
and ancestor of Jesus Christ” “also
describes”
which refers to “even and indeed speaks, affirms, maintains,
exhorts, commands and directs” “the
blessedness”
or “the beatification and attribution of good fortune” “of
the man”
which means “of the human being whether male or female”. The
example of “King David” was employed by Paul as an example of
“the attribution of good fortune” of the “person” he is about
to describe.
The
verse goes on to say, “...
unto whom God imputes righteousness without works.”
Paul
continued with the words, “unto
whom”
which means “toward who” “God”
which refers to “the Godhead and trinity which is comprised of God
the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “imputes”
which means “reckons, counts, compute, calculate and take into
account” “righteousness”
or “the state of him who is as he ought to be and the condition
acceptable to God” “without
works”
which refers to “no business, employment and that which any one is
occupied”. The person to whom “David”
referred as “blessed”
was the one “reckoned to be acceptable to God” “without
working”
at all.
When
we consider these words of Paul, we see how he referred to Psalm
chapter thirty-two and verses one and two where it reads, “Blessed
is
he whose
transgression is
forgiven, whose
sin is
covered. Blessed is
the man unto whom the LORD imputes not iniquity, and in whose spirit
there
is
no guile.” “Works”
do not save a person. Only “faith”
in God's Son Jesus Christ who kept God's law perfectly is able to
provide “salvation”, and the person who receives “Jesus” is
“blessed”
and “blessed
indeed”.
Next
time Paul shares about the “blessed”,
“to whom the Lord will not impute
sin”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
