Unclean Spirits Identify Jesus as God's Son - Mark 3:11

Mark wrote how Jesus, “spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him. For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues”, and in chapter three and verse eleven of his book, Mark shares how how “unclean spirits” said to Jesus, “you are the Son of God” where we read:

And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him,

and cried, saying, You are the Son of God.

The verse reads, “And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, ... Mark began with the words, “and unclean spirits” or “impure, morally lewd, foul and demonic simple essences, devoid of all or at least all grosser matter who possessed of the power of knowing, desiring, deciding, and acting”, “when they saw him” which means “at the time and moment the demonic spirits perceived, observed, discerned, discovered and ascertained Jesus”, “fell down before him” which means “the unclean spirits prostrated themselves in front of Jesus”. Mark shared how “demonic spirits” “prostrated” themselves “before” Jesus when they discerned who He was.

The verse continues, “... and cried, saying, You are the Son of God.” Mark added the words, “and cried, saying” which means “and shouted aloud, vociferated and spoke with a loud voice” “you are the Son of God” or “Jesus is God's Son”. Mark shared how the “demons” loudly, vocally and openly acknowledged that Jesus is “God's Son”.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we notice how there were “unclean spirits” who were among the multitude of people following Jesus. Though they were unseen by the people around them, they were there, and as soon as they “saw” Jesus, they “fell down” and began shouting loudly that He is “The Son of God”. James who was another disciple of Jesus wrote, “You believe that there is one God; you do well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” (See James 2:19), and those who receive Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” not only “know” who He is, but surrender their lives to Him completely. “Demons” knew who Jesus was. The question is, “do those reading these words know Him and surrender”?

Next time Mark shares how Jesus, straightly charged them that they should not make him known”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
