Mark wrote how Jesus, “went up into a mountain, and called unto him whom he would: and they came unto him. And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,”, and in chapter three and verse fifteen of his book, Mark shares how Jesus gave His disciples, “power to heal … and to cast out devils” where we read:
And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:
The verse reads, “And to have power to heal sicknesses, ...” Mark began with the words, “and to have power” or “and to have physical and mental power and ability” “to heal sicknesses” which means “to cure and restore health to people who are ill”. Mark shared how Jesus gave the “twelve men” He ordained to “cure and restore health” to people who were “sick”.
The verse continues, “... and to cast out devils:” Mark added the words, “and to cast out” which means “and to drive out, expel and compel to depart” “devils” or “evil spirits and messengers and ministers of the devil”. Mark shared how Jesus also gave His “twelve ordained” men power over “demonic spirits”.
When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how these “twelve men” who were called by Jesus were not only to “preach” the Kingdom of God, but also to demonstrate the Kingdom's arrival by healing “sick people” and “driving demons” away. God's Kingdom is most powerful, and when a person submits their life to Jesus Christ as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they align themselves with the “good news” of God and His power to “heal sicknesses” and “cast out devils”.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus “surnamed” and man named “Simon” as “Peter”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
