Luke the physician wrote how multitudes came to John to be “baptized”, and “as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not. John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I comes, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire. Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable”, and in chapter three and verse eighteen of his book Luke shared how John said, “many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people” where we read:
And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.
The verse reads, “And many other things in his exhortation ...” Luke began with the words, “and many other things” or “and lots, many and and great number of other teachings” “in his exhortation” which means “in John's summon, admonishing, entreating and beseeching”. Luke referred to the “many other teachings” of John the Baptist.
The verse goes on to say, “... preached he unto the people.” Luke continued with the words, “preached he” which means “brought, announced and proclaimed John” “unto the people” or “toward the multitude, crowd and assembly of people”. Luke shared how John proclaimed many other teachings to the crowd of people who gathered.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we see how there are “many” teachings of John that were not recorded by Luke. John shared many teachings concerning the Kingdom of God with people, and the main one was to have them believe and trust in the Messiah that was to come. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they put their faith and trust in Him, they shall receive forgiveness from God and everlasting life with Him. John was aware of the Messiah's role in the world, and his function was to let people know “the Kingdom of God” is at hand.
Next time Luke shares about, “Herod the tetrarch”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
