Luke the physician wrote how Jesus, “went down with” His parents “and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart”, and in chapter two and verse fifty-two of his book Luke shared how Jesus, “increased in wisdom and stature” where we read:
And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
The verse reads, “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, ...” Luke began with the words, “and Jesus” which refers to “the Son of God, the Savior of the world and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “increased” which means “advanced, proceeded and made progress” “in wisdom” or “in broad and full intelligence which is used of the knowledge of very diverse matters” “and stature” or “age, time of life and maturity”. Luke shared how “Jesus” continued to “mature and grow” in His “understanding” of “various subjects”
The verse continues, “... and in favor with God and man.” Luke added the words, “and in favor” which means “and in grace, joy, pleasure, sweetness, charm and loveliness” “with God” or “with the Godhead the Father and the first person of the trinity” “and man” which means “and people”. Luke shared how Jesus also “grew” in “grace and pleasure” with “God” and “people”.
When consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus continued to “mature” both physically and spiritually. Jesus was allowed to “grow up”, and He “pleased” God and other people as He did. God desires people to be in a personal relationship with Himself, and He wants them to grow in maturity with Himself and other people. God's “favor” was upon Jesus, and those who are wise will “believe and trust” in Him to receive His “grace” to forgive their sins and eternal life with Him.
Next time we begin a new chapter Luke shares what happened “in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
