Broiled Fish and Honeycomb - Luke 24:42

The beloved physician Luke shared how Jesus revealed Himself to the two disciples who traveled with Him to Emmaus, and afterward they “rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon. And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread. And as they thus spoke, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and said unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them, Why are you troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones, as you see me have. And when he had thus spoken, he showed them his hands and his feet. And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have you here any meat?”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse forty-two of his book Luke shared how Jesus' disciples gave Him, “a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb” where we read:

And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.

The verse reads, “And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, ... Luke began with the words, “and they gave him or “and Jesus' eleven disciples and the people with them handed over, delivered and offered Jesus” “a piece” which means “a part or measure” “of broiled fish” or “of a cooked or roasted fish”. Luke shared how Jesus' disciples offered Him a “portion” of “cooked fish”.

The verse goes on to say, “... and of an honeycomb.” Luke continued with the words, “and of an honeycomb” which means “and a comb relating to bees that make honey”. Luke shared how Jesus' disciples also gave Him some “honeycomb” to eat.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we discover how Jesus was willing to receive “cooked fish” and a “honeycomb” to eat before His “eleven disciples” and the people with them. Jesus was not just a “spirit” or “ghost”, and He would prove it by eating the “fish and honeycomb” before this small group of people. God's Son Jesus is alive, and though He was in His glorified body when He stood before His “eleven disciples and their companions”, He was still able to eat. Much more could be written about this wonderful event and the implications of Jesus' body, but let it suffice us to know Jesus was resurrected from the dead and is the “Savior and Lord” of the world. Those who carefully consider all these circumstances proving He was alive – believe.

Next time Luke shares how Jesus, “took it, and did eat before them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
