Another Feast of the Jews - John 5:1

John the apostle wrote how, “Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. Then said Jesus unto him, Except you see signs and wonders, you will not believe. The nobleman said unto him, Sir, come down before my child dies. Jesus said unto him, Go your way; your son lives. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Your son lives. Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Your son lives: and himself believed, and his whole house. This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee”, and in chapter five and verse one of his book, John shared how, “this is again the second miracle that Jesus did” where we read:

After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

The verse reads, “After this there was a feast of the Jews;”. John began with the words, “After this” or “beyond the healing of the nobleman's son” “there was a feast” which means “there existed a festival or holy day” “of the Jews” or “belonging to the people within the Jewish nation in respects to birth, origin and religion”. John shared about another “festival or holy day” that was celebrated after Jesus healed the nobleman's son.

The verse continues, “and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.John added the words, “and Jesus” which means “and the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “went up to Jerusalem” or “ascended to the city of Jerusalem whose name means set you double peace and was the capital of Palestine”. John shared how “Jesus” ascended to the city of “Jerusalem” at this “feast” time.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus went to attend another “feast of the Jews” in the city of Jerusalem. This divinely appointed city was where Jesus not only engaged people, but also was the place He would give His life on the cross. Each of the “feast or holy days” were representative of the acts Jesus would perform as the Messiah. Jesus worked many miracles in Jerusalem of which the greatest was to die for the sins of the world, and thereby every person has an opportunity to receive Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Those who believe in Him will be “saved”, but woe be unto those who refuse to receive Him.

Next time see John share about, “a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
